8 City Walks To Take by The Water in Stockholm

One of the most popular places in Stockholm is Djurgården. Being an island, Djurgården is surrounded by water and has tons of walking and hiking paths worth exploring. Some of the most picturesque images that you can take of Stockholm will be on Djurgården, like the skylines views of Stockholm City and Södermalm. When exploring Djurgården, you will discover many places to visit, like the ABBA Museum, Vasa Museet, Gröna Lund, and Skansen.

Taking a stroll down Skeppsbron is one of the prettiest walks you can take in Gamla Stan. Located right next to the water, you will come across the castle, the statue of King Gustaf III, and many small cafes and restaurants. If the idea strikes you to adventure a bit further out, the SL ferry is conveniently located on this path and it can take you to several different locations such as Djurgården, Fjäderholmarna and Lidingö.

If you are looking for a bit of an adventure, hop on a boat and take a short ride from Slussen or Nybroplan. Once you have reached the closest archipelago to Stockholm, you will get to Fjäderholmarna, a group of beautiful islands that you should not miss. Additionally, Fjäderholmarnasbad (the beach), which is located on the archipelago’s shore, has great swim-friendly rocks and is a perfect place to relax by the shore.

Along the shore of Lake Flaten lies Flatenbadet, a popular beach that tends to get crowded during warmer days. But Flaten is also a great location for those looking to take long walks by the water for quieter days. The area, which also has a mini-golf course and jumping stations, is quiet around this time of the year, making it ideal for those in search of peaceful surroundings. Located south of Stockholm City, Lake Flaten is considered to be one of the cleanest lakes in all of Stockholm and attracts nature lovers due to the large forest, fresh air and relaxing atmosphere.

If you head up a bit north of Stockholm City to the Solna area, you will find Hagaparken. Part of the Royal National Park, there are many reasons to visit this famous spot, one of them being the old architecture-like buildings from the 18th century. Hagaparken is surrounded by nature as far as the eye can see, which makes it the perfect place for a walk at any time of the day.

It is always a bonus if you can find an exciting location that has a ton of attractions nearby. Långholmen is a beautiful island in close proximity to wonderful, historic sites such as the Bellmans Museum and Longholm Prison Museum. Långholmen beach is usually filled with people during warmer months. However, as the months get colder, it turns into a haven for nature lovers looking to roam around freely.

One of the most centrally-located and peaceful islands in Stockholm is Skeppsholmen. From here, you have gorgeous views of the major islands that make up Stockholm, like Stockholm City, Djurgården, Gamla Stan, and Södermalm. However, taking a peaceful stroll near the water isn’t the only thing you can do. The Moderna Museet and Östasiatiska Museet are both found here, as well as a small 19th-century castle.

Located near the south end of Drakenburg Park in the Hornstull neighborhood lies Tantolunden. The park has quite a few water amenities, like docks, climbing walls and a jumping tower. Due to its close proximity to the city, one can visit and take a long walk by the water, drop by the beach or relax at the park before heading into the city for a fun night.
