It is always hard to move to a new place, which is why it’s important to choose wisely. Lithuania may not be among the first destinations that spring to mind, but here’s why a move here could make sense for you.

1. The food is delicious

It might take some time to get used to Lithuanian food, but once you do, you’ll wonder how you lived without it. From potato dishes such as cepelinai or kugelis to desserts such as šakotis, Lithuanian food always impresses.

2. The cost of living is reasonable

Lithuania is one of the cheapest countries in Europe, so immigrants from Western or Northern Europe will feel relieved when they see the prices. Of course, Lithuania is not as cheap as countries such as Mexico or Thailand, but the cost of living is reasonable, especially if you are living in Lithuania and getting a pay cheque or pension from countries such as the USA or Germany.

3. The scenery is beautiful

Lithuanian nature is underrated by the rest of the world. You can walk through never-ending forests and swim in near-secret lakes that only locals know. There are also some superb national parks in Lithuania.

4. There are no natural disasters

If the wind fells a tree during a storm it’s considered a big event in Lithuania. So forget about earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and other natural disasters. You’ll only need to get used to snow and some cold days in the winter (and you can always build a snowman or go snowmobiling).

5. Education is free

Those who get good grades in secondary and high school are able to study at university for free. But if your grades aren’t as good as expected, you’ll need to pay a small fee to attend. But most students generally graduate from college with little debt, or none at all.

6. It’s quiet

People who want to live their lives quietly, without constantly rushing somewhere, will feel at home in Lithuania. Of course, Lithuanians are responsible and hard working, but they also know how to relax and enjoy their freedom. For example, you can go mushroom or berry picking, which is nothing less than a free session of the highest-quality meditation and spiritual healing.
