Earlier this year, a small-group of adventurers explored the frozen wilderness of Iceland with TRIPS by Culture Trip. Departing from Reykjavik and led by Local Insider Ragnar, the group visited essential landmarks and lesser known wonders as part of a carefully curated itinerary. Their reward? Ragnar explained why this approach to exploring his homeland appealed to him – just as much as it did the travellers who joined the adventure.

“I’m not a fan of full coaches of 70 people. That’s one way of travelling, but not my style. I like small groups I can reach out to, making things more smooth, personal, interesting and fun.”

The group ventured to remote canyons, rode snowmobiles across frozen glaciers, visited film and TV locations captured in recent blockbusters, and (bravely) tried local delicacies, including fermented shark. To top it off, there was also a bucket-list moment when the Northern Lights appeared on the last night, in all their glowing green glory.

“This trip by Culture Trip is a thorough introduction to Iceland,” Ragnar added. “It takes you to some of the most popular sites and some offbeat locations most people don’t go to. Also, you get to taste local food that most people miss out on. So I have to say that this ticks so many boxes for the amount of time spent – it’s just amazing.”
