Peru has become a haven for spiritual pilgrims looking for something new, an experience of life outside what they’ve become accustomed to at home. With traditions that date back to the Incas and even before that – traditions in the Amazon dating back to time immemorial – Peru is offering tourists and visionary seekers a new sort of medicine that has largely been lost on the Western world. Here is our guide to the best places for healing in Peru.

1. The Healing House

As a spiritual home, it’s hard to beat the location of the Healing House, right in the the San Blas neighborhood of Cusco. San Blas is the bohemian part of Cusco, with great access to the Plaza de Armas, and the sacred Inca ruins are only a short walk away. The Healing House feels like a family home and will welcome you with open arms. Their healers and teachers offer classes throughout the day that range from yoga to sound healing and reiki. You can book a room or rent out one of their larger houses in San Blas for your retreat.

2. La Luna Del Amazonas

The tradition of ayahuasca ceremonies comes straight out of the Amazon rainforest, which is right where La Luna Del Amazonas is located, about an hour’s boat ride from the city of Iquitos, and there’s no better place to drink it than at its very source in the Amazon rainforest. The retreat has various shamans, with more than 40 years of experience leading ceremonies, in their spectacular temple surrounded by the Amazon rainforest. Enrique, the manager and part-owner, helps accommodate guests with translations and anything else they may need. They also offer kambo and San Pedro ceremonies, and excursions along the Amazon River.

3. The source

The Source is a luxury yoga retreat and healing center in the Sacred Valley. They have a large temple that is perfect for large groups as well as for ayahuasca ceremonies, which are offered by experienced shamans. Private groups can rent out the property, or you can go by yourself and join a group.

You’ll be able to rest and relax here, and you’ll feel re-energized after spending just a day at this healing center. 5. Yoga Mandala

Yoga Studio

Yoga Mandala takes Andean tradition and philosophy seriously. While at their retreat, you’ll be led in ceremonies and rituals that bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual world, getting you in touch with a side you may never have known existed. They’ll even take you on planned trips around the Sacred Valley.

6. Selva Madre

Located in the heart of the Peruvian jungle, Selva Madre offers visitors an ayahuasca retreat focused on health and healing and led by their qualified shaman. The retreat will answer all the logistical questions you may have upon your arrival, and they have medical staff to support you during the retreat, so you don’t have to worry about anything.

7. Etnikas

This retreat in the Sacred Valley combines traditions from the Incas and the Andean region with traditions from the Peruvian Amazon. At the retreat, you can expect a mixture of Incan ceremonies with Amazon and Christian elements. They offer ayahuasca retreats administered by at least two different shamans, as well as doctors on call around the clock to give you check-ups if you should need them. You can even couple an ayahuasca retreat with a trip to Machu Picchu for the ultimate Inca experience.
