Jacobson Park is featured on 216 acres in east Lexington. The park includes both a reservoir and a golf course. The gorgeous, green slopes are ideal for a lazy afternoon picnic, and there are also basketball courts, and a dog park. The reservoir is fresh and inviting, and is the perfect spot to take a swim or rent a paddleboat and sail across the waters.

2. Woodland Park

Woodland Park

Located near downtown Lexington, Woodland Park was once part of a local estate, and has been open to the public since 1882. The park has a long history of hosting lavish events for the city’s elite on its rolling lawns. Today, the park has an indoor aquatic center with a pool and play area for children, as well as spa facilities. In addition to this, there is a lake, tennis courts, and an impressive skate park that draws an eclectic and energetic crowd of skateboarders and spectators.

3. Masterson Station Park

Located in district two of Lexington, Masterson Station Park is a nearly 700 acre green area. The park has equestrian facilities, and offers lessons from beginners to more advanced riders. There is a dog park, soccer and football fields, and a pavilion to be rented out for special functions. Spend a weekend in this luscious park by renting out one of the shelters, grill some food, and enjoy the scenic surroundings.

4. Castlewood Park

Castlewood Park is located in downtown Lexington, and is one of the city’s oldest parks. The site is the home of the historic Loudon House, built in the mid-19th century; the home is considered an impeccable example of Gothic Revival architecture of the time period. Today, the park hosts a large, state-of-the-art aquatic center, sports fields and facilities, and a community center.

5. Kentucky Horse Park

This lovely famed horse park offers seasonal tickets which give visitors access to the horses, museums, and activities located on the farm. Spend the day touring the barns, then head to the Hall of Champions, where visitors can find famed thoroughbreds. Then head to the Breed Barn show, and wander around the gardens to see the many statues and monuments. You can also visit the site’s museums to learn about the local history, and visit the center’s blacksmith facilities.
