Once a forgotten island, New Holland has become a buzzing hub of cultural life in the city. Year round there are a ton of things to do on the island, thanks to the constantly changing and expanding program of events and services. Here are some of the best things to see and do throughout the year.

Learn new asanas

Each summer season, New Holland organizes a series of regular yoga events and workshops that take place right on the grass. Here guests can enjoy the balmy weather and the fresh air. Join a morning practice and continue your day with a cup of coffee or juice at one of the nearby cafes.

Jazz it up

Wednesdays are for jazz. For years, New Holland has been organizing weekly summer jazz concerts at the ‘Bottle’ yard stage. Guests can relax on one of the restaurants’ terraces and enjoy the concert with a glass of wine. If this sounds like your cup of tea, make sure to arrive in advance – the tables get full early!

Wine and dine

Home to several restaurant projects, New Holland has a lot to offer foodies from all over the world. Vietnamese, Georgian, Israeli, Mexican, Italian – all these cuisines are at home in New Holland. Feel free to pick any restaurant, they are all delicious.

Dance with stars

One of the most renowned Russian ballerinas, Diana Vishneva, recently opened a dance studio called Context.Pro in New Holland. The studio provides classes in classical ballet, contemporary dance, stretching and more. The studio is open year round, and in the summer, special programs like master classes and open air practices are available as well.

Catch the festival season

Summer is the season to be outside and active, and in New Holland, summer is truly a hot time. Every year, the island plays host to multiple festivals, as well as cultural events and charity programs. Each festival showcases the best of its subject matter, including art, music and gastronomy. The festivals and programs are regularly updated on New Holland’s website, so take a peak.

Play chess

It’s time to hone your chess strategy and maybe learn some new chess moves. As part of the summer program in New Holland, chess is readily available for players and admirers. Play on the second Sunday of every month, or practice for an open tournament.

Get a tan

New Holland is one of a few places in the city where people can lie down on the grass. Starting this year, New Holland has also implemented a real beach zone with sand and comfy lounge chairs. Combine this with homemade ice cream and amazing events, and you’ve got yourself a fun weekend planned.

Enjoy movies

New Holland is preparing an extensive movie program that will delight viewers throughout the summer season with open air movie screenings. On top of that, two film festivals will take place. The Beat Film Weekend is a short film festival featuring movies concerning music, contemporary art, street culture and other burning topics. Center Festival is an annual festival of documentaries about city life and culture.

Go ice skating

Each winter New Holland constructs a big ice skating rink decorated in lights and holiday cheer. It is so carefully decorated that it almost has a movie-like ambiance. Stay active by skating around the park and maybe make a few friends. When you’re all skated out, head to one of the restaurants or bars to warm up with a glass of red wine.
