Although the rooms, made from old shipping containers, can’t be described as spacious, they have everything you need, including queen-size beds or bunk beds if you’re travelling with a family or large group.

The seven pet-friendly rooms, suites and cabanas lie within a charming villa perched on a hillside. Each one boasts lots of space and natural light, contemporary furniture and stunning views over Taal Lake. The staff treat pets as part of the family, although you’ll have to pay 1,000 Philippine pesos (£15) per pet per night (this does not apply to guide or assistance dogs). The grounds are also perfect for active pursuits with your pet.

Deep in the coffee orchards outside central Tagaytay is Nurture Wellness Village. As the name indicates, there’s an emphasis on wellness here, specifically a distinctive brand of “ecotherapy” or healing by and through nature. It includes spa treatments and a variety of activities. If you’re travelling with pets, book one of the five glamping tents – available for single families, groups of up to eight or, if you’ve got a big gathering, up to 20 adults and eight children. You’ll have to bring crates for your pets, though, as they’re not allowed inside the tents. They also can’t be in the dining, drinking and pool areas.

Some rooms have kitchenettes. The expansive grounds were made for a long lazy walk with your dog. As with the Carmelence View, there’s a 1,000-peso (£15) deep-cleaning fee per night for each pet, not including guide or assistance dogs.

Canines (and their humans) checking into one of these nautical-inspired cabins will be greeted by the hotel’s resident pet, Blue. Larger groups should consider the family rooms, which can accommodate up to four guests. A restaurant and rooftop deck provide a bit of extra space, and the grounds are perfect for exercising your pet. If you need a little energy for the first dog walk of the day, the hotel serves the punchy local coffee, kapeng barako.

6. Asian Village Tagaytay
